Andorra is a parlamentary co-principality. The co-princes are the president of the French republic, currently Emmanuel Macron, and the bishop of the La Seu d’Urgell county located in Spain, currently Joan Enric Vives i Sicília.
Until the approval of the constitution in 1993 the country’s political landscape could have almost been caracterized as feudal with some incorporated democratic elements. With the new constitution, Andorra entered the modern political landscape of the 20th century. The co-princes are the heads of state but the country has it’s own president and parlamentary system.
Each parish has it’s own “Comu” which could be understood as a council that deals with it’s own local affairs such as infrastructure, services and general upkeep.
